Should the City of Eureka Open a Public Owned Gas Station?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on July 2, 2014 by highboldtage

Given the obvious in your face corruption in the local fuel supply I say YES!   A small town in Kentucky just voted to open a city owned station because the people there face the same kind of corruption that we do here in Eureka.   Its time to fight back.

The town is Somerset Kentucky and they seem to be a high fuel price island just like Eureka and Arcata.

How Will Drilling Help If Refineries Are Cutting Back?

Oil Rises $2.99 on Bigger-Than-Expected Gasoline Supply Decline

By Mark Shenk

Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) — Crude oil futures rose more than $2 a barrel after a U.S. Energy Department report showed a bigger- than-forecast decline in inventories of gasoline as refiners shut units and imports fell.

Gasoline supplies dropped 6.39 million barrels to 202.8 million barrels last week, the biggest decline since October 2002 when Hurricane Lili and Tropical Storm Isidore disrupted output along the Gulf of Mexico. Stockpiles were forecast to decrease 2.15 million barrels, according to a Bloomberg News survey.

“Refiners are cutting runs and imports plunged because demand is so weak,” said Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy & Economic Research in Winchester, Massachusetts. “Refiners weren’t making money so it made sense to shut units.”

A Backlash is Brewing Among Drivers in U.S. Against Ethanol Blends

A Backlash is Brewing Among Drivers in U.S. Against Ethanol Blends

By: iStockAnalyst   Saturday, July 26, 2008 11:51 AM
By Kate Galbraith”Why Do You Put Alcohol in Your Tank?” demands a large sign outside a gasoline service station here, which reassures drivers that it sells only “100% Gas.”

“No Corn in Our Gas,” advertises another station nearby.

Along the highways of this city, and elsewhere in the United States, a mutiny is growing against energy policies that heavily support and subsidize the blending of ethyl alcohol, or ethanol, generally made from corn, into gasoline.

Many consumers complain that ethanol, which constitutes as much as 10 percent of the fuel they buy in most states, hurts the efficiency of their cars and chokes the engines of their boats and motorcycles.

Pure ethanol contains one-third less energy than gasoline, and the ethanol industry acknowledges that E10 reduces mileage by about 2 percent.

Mexico begins rationing gasoline to station owners

By Omar Millán González
UNION-TRIBUNE

July 8, 2008

TIJUANA – Mexico’s national oil monopoly began to ration the supply of gasoline in the Baja California region yesterday, much as it has limited diesel deliveries for several weeks.

Joaquín Aviña, president of the Association of Gas Station Owners of Tijuana, which represents 157 stations, said Pemex told the stations it would supply them according to their sales from January to March, without taking into account current demand.

He said that sales during that period, normally a slow time, were far below what they are now.

“This short-sighted approach could generate chaos similar to what we’re currently experiencing with diesel,” Aviña said.

British truckers protest fuel prices in London

LONDON (AP) — Hundreds of truckers drove to Britain’s Parliament on Wednesday to protest the rising cost of fuel.

Police closed a section of a highway into the capital to let the trucks gather, then escorted the 200 trucks in convoys of 20 into the center of town. Dozens of protesters on foot gathered outside the Houses of Parliament, waiting to go inside to lobby members of Parliament and holding placards that said “Fair Play on Fuel.”

Fuel Rationing in Tijuana?

Shrinking fuel supplies causing mad scramble

Public bus service may be halted today
By Omar Millán González
UNION-TRIBUNEJune 19, 2008

TIJUANA – Truck and bus drivers experienced a day of chaos in Tijuana yesterday, as they chased a dwindling supply of diesel fuel. Today was shaping up to be even worse.

For weeks, drivers from the United States have snapped up Mexican diesel, which is selling for about 50 percent less than in California.

That has resulted in a shortage of the fuel, and gas stations nearest the border crossings started halting or limiting sales last weekend.

By yesterday, diesel had started to run out at outlying stations

….{snip}….

Long lines of trucks and buses, their drivers desperate to buy diesel, formed at those stations still selling the fuel.

Public transportation officials announced that if they could not refuel their buses they would halt service today, a decision that affects at least 750,000 daily riders.

….{snip}….
Mexicoach, which previously bought diesel in Tijuana, was now buying it in San Diego, paying significantly more. González said the company had no choice but to raise its fares as well.

Dozens of cargo trucks were stranded along roads south and east of Tijuana after their drivers could not find diesel.

….{snip}….

Local officials with Pemex, the national oil monopoly, have refused to comment about the crisis for days. But in Mexico City, its director, Jesús Reyes Heroles, denied yesterday that there was a fuel shortage on the border, the news agency Notimex reported.

….{snip}….

Mexican government subsidies keep the fuel price lower than in the United States. A gallon of regular unleaded gas (87 octane) sells for $2.54, premium (91 octane) for $3.19 and diesel for $2.20.

Rationing of diesel began Friday
