Haze Brothers Diss Humboldt Pot……in 1980!

Marijuana is now the top cash crop in California, having recently pulled ahead of various fruits, nuts and swamis. This presents a lot of California farm folk with the unenviable chore of hyping their product across the land while doing their damndest to hide every illegal speck of the stuff.
Take the Haze brothers. For four years they’ve been captivating American potheads with what they brazenly declare to be the “finest pot grown anywhere on earth.”
Using seeds from their favorite imported smoke, the Haze brothers came out with “Purple Haze’ “Golden Haze” and a range of other colors four years ago, and have been breeding and crossbreeding subsequent generations of those botanical wonders. “The colors are a fluke,” says Haze. “We never know what color a crop will come out. One year its tannish brown, next year it’s greenish purple.”
Joe Haze says northern-California pot is upstaging his “brand,” and without justification. “The stuff they grow up there is mostly indica, but it’s harvested early to get it in before the frost,” he says. “in our county the flowers pump out resin until December, and Haze pot is from sativa seeds.”

Eureka’s New Medical Marijuana Dispensary

That’s the good news for us medical marijuana patients.  The Hummingbird Healing Center is close to St. Joseph’s Hospital and near the bus.

Thanks to the stupidity of the Eureka City Council and City Manager this dispensary will provide NO TAX REVENUE to our cash strapped city because it is located OUTSIDE the city limits.

Way to go.  Now maybe these idiots will come to their senses and allow reasonable medical marijuana in the city that is the capitol of the Emerald Triangle.  One can only hope for intelligence in government.  Of course I mean institutional stupidity.  Councilmember Linda Atkins brought this forth courageously a few months ago and I hope she revisits it now that the dank is out of the bag.

Dana Point wants pot dispensaries’ member names, records

The city says it’s seeking documents from five operations in town to figure out if they are legal. The dispensaries refused, in part, on privacy and constitutional grounds.

The Orange County Register

An Orange County Superior Court judge is expected to rule on Friday whether to enforce Dana Point’s subpoenas for five medical marijuana dispensaries’ records as part of a city investigation.

Among a list of requests the city is seeking from dispensaries is identifications and contact information for clients of the groups.

San Diego Medical Marijuana Providers Latest Target as Aggressive Raids Continue

San Diego Medical Marijuana Providers Latest Target as Aggressive Raids Continue

Enforcement action occurs the day after approval of San Diego medical marijuana task force

San Diego, CA — Americans for Safe Access (ASA), the nationwide patients’ rights advocacy organization, received reports today of several medical marijuana raids in the San Diego area by federal and local law enforcement. Today’s raids by the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, with the support of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), occurred only a day after the San Diego City Council voted 6-1 to implement a medical marijuana task force to help the city draft local laws.

“Not only does the federal government have no place helping to enforce state and local medical marijuana laws,” said ASA California Director Don Duncan. “Local officials must regulate medical marijuana and enforce those laws with civil actions, not with the barrel of a gun.” According to local media, the raids were part of an ongoing investigation involving San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, a notorious opponent of medical marijuana. “It is incumbent on District Attorney Dumanis to help pass local regulations in San Diego not to aggressively undermine safe access to medical marijuana,” continued Duncan.

Law enforcement was reported handcuffing and detaining several people on the scene of more than a half dozen raids. In typical fashion for such raids, medical marijuana, cash and other property has been seized. No violations have been alleged at this time. For years, safe access to medical marijuana in San Diego has been resisted by local officials, repeatedly calling on the federal government to conduct raids. In 2007 and 2008, continued federal and local raids forced the closure of more than 20 medical marijuana dispensing collectives. However, after the California Attorney General issued medical marijuana guidelines in August 2008, recognizing the legality of dispensing collectives, medical marijuana providers began operating again in San Diego.

Two weeks ago, the California Senate voted 23-15 on a resolution urging the federal government to end medical marijuana raids and to “create a comprehensive federal medical marijuana policy that ensures safe and legal access to any patient that would benefit from it.” Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 14, introduced in June by State Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) seeks to keep local enforcement in the hands of local officials and calls on Congress and the President to move forward with a new federal policy on medical marijuana.

Despite a presidential campaign promise made by Barack Obama, that he will not “be using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state laws,” federal raids have continued under his Administration. “It’s of utmost importance that the Obama Administration give deference to local officials to implement local and state medical marijuana laws,” continued Duncan.

UPDATE- Dope, guns and Republican blood lust in Mendocino County

Dope, guns and Republican blood lust in Mendocino County

By Tim Stelloh

As told by Tim Stoen, the deputy district attorney who prosecuted the case, the story of Kenny Rogers was as salacious as they come, a story without parallel outside the Emerald Triangle. It was a story of a vengeful, pot-growing Republican official who hired a hit man to murder a political enemy — and offered to pay for the job with marijuana. It was a story of an ambitious politician with a lethal style of small-town politics. By day, Stoen argued, Rogers was one of the North Coast’s few proud conservatives, but by night he was a man who hung around hardcore felons — and hired them to do his dirty work.

Lawyer challenges marijuana DUI laws in California

Lawyer challenges marijuana DUI laws in California

Well-known California DUI lawyer Lawrence Taylor is now challenging whether DUI can be applied to marijuana usage.

Taylor is questioning whether marijuana impairs a person’s ability to drive to the degree alcohol does. While there have been various tests regarding alcohol-impairment in driving, there are relatively few to support the same is true of cannabis.
