Ultrasonic Teenage Deterrent
LONDON, England (CNN) — A high-pitched device used to combat anti-social behavior among young people has been called “unfair” by children’s campaigners in England.
The Children’s Commissioner for England, who oversees children’s rights, has called for a ban on the ultra-sonic gadget, known as “The Mosquito,” which disperses young people by emitting sharp, piercing sounds.
The device causes discomfort to younger ears by exploiting their ability to hear very high frequencies — a power which declines once they reach their 20s.

Aynsley-Green said about 3,500 of the devices are in use across England to split up gatherings of youth in areas such as parks and shops.
“These devices are indiscriminate and target all children and young people, including babies, regardless of whether they are behaving or misbehaving,” he added.

The company describes The Mosquito as an “ultrasonic teenage deterrent” and “the most effective tool in our fight against anti social behavior.

However, Shami Chakrabarti, director of the human rights group Liberty, said: “What type of society uses a low-level sonic weapon on its children? Imagine the outcry if a device was introduced that caused blanket discomfort to people of one race or gender, rather than to our kids.
“The Mosquito has no place in a country that values its children and seeks to instill them with dignity and respect.”

Shami Chakrabarti asks what kind of society uses such devices on it’s children? The answer: the same society that has produced a plague of violent teenage vandels who think nothing of congregating in gangs which then indiscriminately smash and destroy property and attacks and injures, often seriously, whoever tries to stop them. Shami, what planet are you living on???? Teenage deliquancy is a very real and huge problen in every western nation. You want these devices gone? Then reintroduce discipline! Reintroduce responsibility! Reintroduce real consequinces for anti-social behaviour! Parents-supervise and control your children! And what are they doing congregating on the streets anyway? The big cause of this issue is that these children – far from being little angles – have been raised to become self-centred monsters who think that the whole world revolves around them! Hence their behaviour. (Not all teenagers, of course, many are well raised and responsible contributors to society. But the ones whom this topic concerns usually are not.) I work at a school where vandelism is an almost nightly occurance – we see every day what these teenagers are capable of. The answer to this dilemma is in the restoration of parenting skills and social responsibility in the behaviour of all concerned. When these children are once again well-raised, the problem may well go away all by itself.

This device is being used where i live and i love it. i’m 17 and if i go near it, it will affect me but that’s fine. I just don’t go near it. I have personally found that the only people who have an issue with this device are those who have criminal records or commit crimes but have yet to be caught. The only thing that i would request is that it be made clear as to where these devices are in your city so you can stay away from them. anyone who feels these things are unfair are those who plan to trespass on those property’s during the hours that the mosquitoes are turned. I have no use for criminals or those who try to support the rights of criminals.
