Drinking Water Tank Vandalized at Red Bluff Marijuana Festival

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on May 28, 2010 by highboldtage

A $2,600 setback did little Thursday to deter World Hemp Expo Extravaganja 2010 organizers as they prepared for an event months in the making.

(See Marijuana Event Planned for Red Bluff – Tehama )

Sheriff’s deputies report a 5,300-gallon plastic water tank, one of several installed at the festival site on Riverside Avenue in Red Bluff, was punctured with 24 holes by way of a battery-powered- drill. The holes ruined the tank, which organizers planned on using to store drinking water for the alcohol-free event.

Though some 2,000 people are expected per organizers do not expect big profits.

It will be a miracle if we can break even, said Steve Hager, creative director for High Times Magazine.

Scheduled events include seminars on body painting, belly dancing and marijuana law, debates on marijuana legalization, a cannabis film festival and more than a dozen bands.

A number of vendors have been invited, though marijuana sales have been banned at the event.

Like Donna Will, who is heading up the event, Zoe said she hoped the crowds would be good for the surrounding businesses.

With a few competing Memorial Day events, the event should bring in tourist income to Tehama County, she said.

Latrines are on site, a logistical map sketched out, grass mowed and security is in place.

What more could Donna Will and Jerry Doran need to hold their World Hemp Expo in Tehama County this weekend?

How about a county-issued special events permit?

“I don’t care if the county issues me a permit or not, this event is taking place,” Will said on Monday.

And to all appearances it seems she is right.

Sheriff: “……stationing a command post vehicle at the intersection of Highway 99W and Riverside Avenue starting on Thursday, and having at least two men on duty at all times until the event is closed.”
