What Is A Minimum Wage?

Is a minimum wage welfare?  No, it is not.  A minimum wage is enacted to ensure that honest labor is adequately rewarded.  The benefits of a minimum wage go mainly to those who are working, not the “idle” though the benefits do eventually flow to the community as well.  It is social engineering.  It is a social convention required by the fact that the “free” market always prices some labor below the level that the worker can survive.  It is social “ensurance.”  Without a minimum wage people are forced in the end to emigrate and that weakens the community.  Communities without an adequate minimum wage are very short sighted.
