Two AMTRAK Trains Stuck Near Placerville

Around 5:30 p.m., a passenger onboard one of the Amtrak trains told KCRA 3 that the train has not moved for more than six hours.

 The Amtrak trains are situated between Penryn and Loomis outside of Auburn.

 The two Amtrak trains, which are heading to and coming from Chicago, are about 10 miles apart.

“According to Liisa Lawson-Stark, local Director of Public Affairs for Union Pacific, the number one rail line was impacted when a locomotive had stalled between Newcastle and Auburn, followed by a rock slide in the same area. The situation was compounded by the ongoing track replacement project.

“The TRT machine is working on our main line number 2 right now, so that line from Rocklin and Colfax is out of service,” Lawson-Stark said.”
