Chamomile, the Cannabis Companion Plant?

I was perusing a grow guide for noobs, and I came across the suggestion that chamomile be grown as a companion plant for cannabis because chamomile increases the production of “oils and resins” of the herb plants it grows near to.

This is just as interesting as the Banana Religion.  Has anyone tried this?

“Many people love chamomiile tea, i do and so do cannabis plants. Chamomile has long been known to boost the essential oil production of many plants such as basil and lavender (i met a man in a bar who said he worked on a commercial lavender farm in california and he told me this). Growing chamomile along with your herbals can deter some species of bugs. Misting your babies with a chamomile tea (cooled of course) is quite beneficial.”

“I found out that chamomile is also called “the plant doctor” because it is thought to help other plants, making them healthier and grow faster. The interesting point was however this, and I quote:

“Chamomile is sometimes known as “the plant doctor”, because it is thought to help the growth and health of many other plants, especially ones that produce essential oils. It is thought to increase production of those oils, making certain herbs, like mints (spearmint, sage, oregano) and basil taste stronger in scent and flavor.””

  2. Something Ive just started researching myself, after pondering upon Wiki’s info, Tarragon, Borage, Chamomile and Lovage all look like good potential companion plants for the Hemp species.

  5. Awesome info. Love that kind of thing. The bananas-link is great info. too. This level of cultivation is almost ‘elven’…!

I just bought two books about companion planting (“Carrots Love Tomatoes” and “Roses Love Garlic,” both by the late Louise Riotte). While I haven’t had time to investigate them much yet, I sincerely doubt either one will have much to say on the issue of cannabis. If you know the close relatives of cannabis, you can be pretty sure of a close match with cannabis. As for “proof that marijuana and chamomile are good companions,” you just have to be brave and choose one of your plants to plant some chamomile next to and go for it – not too likely that it would die because of the other herb. Great Internet resources to check out. Thanks
