Marijuana quotes from Politicians and others you might know

In recognition of “420 day” or the “National Weed Day” for the kids in California that would always meet at 4:20pm to smoke weed…Here are a list of quotes that Presidents or Presidential hopefuls as well as other government entities and celebrities have said about marijuana. These quotes range from the effects of marijuana, legalization of marijuana, and some marijuana facts.
“I now have absolute proof that smoking even one marijuana cigarette is equal in brain damage to being on Bikini Island during an H-bomb blast”
~Ronald Reagan

uptdate here on this maybe apocryphal quote:   https://highboldtage.wordpress.com/2013/03/14/new-light-on-an-old-ronald-reagan-quote/

“When I was in England, I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn’t like it, and I didn’t inhale, and I never tried again.”
~Bill Clinton

“When I was a kid I inhaled frequently. That was the point.”
~Barack Obama

“Make the most of the Indian Hemp Seed and sow it everywhere.”
~George Washington

    George Washington was the shit

  2. Does anyone have a primary source for that Ronald Reagan quote other than the yes390.org site or “1001 Dumbest Things Ever Said” book?

I cannot find a transcript nor newspaper article of Ronald Reagan ever saying this.

This appears to be yet another bogus pot quote. If we want people to take us seriously, pot smokers should stop believing complete fabrications just because they are about weed. Look at Jack Herer’s book “The Emperor Wears No Clothes.” That book is filled with fabrications and rumors, yet is taken as fact by blunted folk.

Another quote which is total fiction is the Abraham Lincoln letter to the harmonica company where he talks about puffing weed on his porch. For one, this harmonica company did not export at the supposed time of the letter nor did they make the harmonica supposedly talked about. By the time this harmonica was made and Americans could buy it, Abraham Lincoln was dead. Yet, this quote appears frequently in stoner writing about Lincoln supposedly being a pot smoker. The primary source of this Lincoln quote is a hippy magazine from the 1970s.

    “I now have absolute proof
that smoking even one marijuana cigarette
    is equal in brain damage
to being on Bikini Island during an H-bomb blast.”
    — Ronald Reagan – Former “B” Actor

    * The Hype: Brain Damage and Dead Monkeys

In 1974, California Governor Ronald Reagan was asked about decriminalizing marijuana. After producing the Heath/Tulane University study, the so-called “Great Communicator” proclaimed, “The most reliable scientific sources say permanent brain damage is one of the inevitable results of the use of marijuana.”
    (L.A. Times)

  4. The second quote is accurate. Was in Dec 5, 1974 L.A. Times “Reagan Warns Against Easing ‘Pot’ Penalties”

The one marijuana cigarette/H-Bomb blast at Bikini Island quote is a fabrication.

It is well-known that Reagan was a quasi-teetotaler. His father was a hardcore alcoholic. He said some pretty boneheaded things about drugs and alcohol completely based on emotion. However, I can find nothing concrete for that particular quote. The origin of that quote as far as I know is the book “1001 Dumbest Things Ever Said” which fabricates many quotes.

My only point here is that if we are going to stand up and say the government is lying and these politicians aren’t basing policy on scientific facts, we need to do some fact checking ourselves.

  5. Mr. Nice,

I agree that there is no good source for this quote that I can find so you may well be correct.

On the other hand my search for sources led me to find Saskia http://www.stumbleupon.com/stumbler/isnothingsacred/, who occupied pleasantly at least two or three minutes of my day.

    Have a peaceful day,
    Bill

  6. Shawna MacKenzie Says:

Ok, well iam in grade 10 and iam doing a thesis on lagalizing marijuna. Ibleieve it should be legalizied after my readings and experiences becaouse 1 you would need to smoke 1500 pounds of weed in 15 minutes to be able to reach a lethal dose, were as you could eat 15 raw potatos for it to become poisonous…….Does something seem a little wrong to you with that?
some people cant even consontrate unless they smoked a joint.

why wont the government just legalize it, they want to get rid of the drugg war the main part of the drug war is marijuna. take it out of the drug cartels hands and cell it like ciggarettes or as alchol(alchol and or ciggarettes will kill you before marijunana)…..

  7. Anonymous Says:

i agreeweed is a great dug

  8. singing4life11@hotmail.com Says:

first of all, shawna, people arent really able to concentrate with a joint. marijuana affects the part of the brain that helps u concentrate. also, people who smoke marijuana end up with schizophrenia, which is basically hallucinating. how is seeing things tht rnt real concentrating?

  9. ok whoever says people who smoke marijuana and up with schizophrenia is just as fucked in the head as ronald regan. I have smoked weed for 6 years and i have a friend who is over 50yrs old and smoked his entire life. I am not near as successful because of my youth, but he is quite well off, married with kids, and I assure you, not schizophrenic.

  10. legalize it(:

  11. singing for life im sorry to say your incorrect in fact pot is known to help schizophrentics ive smoked pot for 12 years now along with everyone in my family and not one of us ever tripped out or saw things that werent there you shouldnt make shit up it just makes you look ignorant
