Bush pollution gaffe surprises G-8 leaders

RUSUTSU, Japan — President Bush has been known for unguarded comments at previous meetings of world leaders, but British newspapers reported Thursday that he surprised a number of them with a joke about environmental policy as he left the G-8 summit in Japan.

Bush, who has been criticized for being reluctant to join international efforts to combat global warming, reportedly ended a private meeting with the words: “Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter.”

The Web sites of the British newspapers The Independent and the Telegraph both reported that he then punched the air while grinning.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy appeared shocked at the comment Bush made

Wexler Co-Sponsors Kucinich’s Impeachment Articles
Congress Must Act Immediately

Last night on the floor of the House, Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio introduced Articles of Impeachment against President George Bush. On the heels of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report confirming that Americans were misled into war with Iraq, and the admissions of former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, Kucinich introduced thirty-five articles of impeachable offenses. The articles cover a wide range of offenses—the mishandling of the war, torture, extraordinary rendition, imprisoning children, tampering with elections, illegal spying on Americans, misuse of signing statements, etc.—read them here, or watch the video, here.

Earlier today, Rep. Robert Wexler became the second co-sponsor.

Tonight, the House Clerk is reading the articles into the record and Rep. Kucinich is expected to make a motion–Congress has 72 hours to table it, send it to committee, pass it, or reject it.

Please take swift action!  Send an email to your member of Congress, now. Tomorrow, call your member of Congress at the Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121, and ask them to follow the rule of law and support impeachment proceedings.

Vote here in our online poll.

Yours in the movement,

Tim Carpenter

Cindy Sheehan for Congress – On the Table

Cindy Sheehan for Congress

It’s time to send our own statement to the Speaker: Nancy, you’re fired! The American people elected a new Congress to bring the troops home and instead all they’ve given us are excuses. Let’s get it right this time and work for a candidate that will make a real difference, Cindy Sheehan. Newsweek magazine thinks we can do it! Click here to read the article published online last week by Newsweek about Cindy’s challenge to Pelosi.

Help us keep our momentum going and kick off our new fundraising campaign to “86 Pelosi.” Our campaign is averaging $86.00 per donation and like the origin of the saying that refers to a famous speakeasy in New York City taking people out the back door on 86 Bedford street to avoid the cops during prohibition, we’re going to show Nancy the door this November. We need 1,000 supporters to send us $86.00 today so that we can get our message out to the voters of San Francisco. Every donation to Cindy’s campaign has come from individuals wanting a change
