Sometime preceding last night’s 6.9 earthquake here in Eureka California there was a big flash boom explosion heard throughout Eureka and the surrounding areas, including the Manila peninsula and Myrtletown suburb to the east. Here in central Eureka I heard it, it was loud enough so it got me out of bed, looking out my window. It sounded to me like a car crashed right outside my window. Other people blocks away have described the same feeling of being near to it. So I will infer that it was some kind of air burst. But who knows for sure. The conspiracy theories here have already started.
For me it sounded very loud but my best description would be the sound of a big green trash dumpster dropped from 10 stories or so right outside my window. I don’t remember the flash but I was almost asleep.
From a careful reading of the reports and my own senses I do sense that the actual physical location of this flash bang was a bit to the east of me, perhaps down near the Shell station on 5th. Reports from east of that location tend to report it as being to the west.
Theories include earthquake lights, naval weapons testing offshore, sonic booms, assholes with household chemicals, fireworks, stolen flashbangs from military or police, meteorite, aliens. Fun stuff. Or a transformer blowing up. But that usually happens with very windy conditions or very hot conditions. We had a very windy night four or five nights ago but last night was pretty calm.
Of course it could have been a big lightning strike. Occams razor. If that’s so there might be a record of it with the meteorologists. We have had a wet soaker rain front come through here the last couple of days, but I have not seen or heard any thunder or lightning.
they are talking about it here:
“We just got in with a load of fish and we saw a whale dying with a large open chunk of flesh about 17 feet long. Weird stuff.”

The CME left the sun traveling some 900 km/s (2 million mph). Three-dimensional computer models based on observations from SOHO and NASA’s twin STEREO probes predict the CME will cross the void between sun and Earth in two days or less. NOAA forecasters estimate a 70% chance of polar geomagnetic storms when the cloud arrives on March 17th.

The 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tōhoku (東北地方太平洋沖地震, Tōhoku-chihō Taiheiyō Oki Jishin?), often referred to in Japan as Higashi nihon daishinsai (東日本大震災?) and also known as the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, the Great East Japan Earthquake,[fn 1] and the 3.11 Earthquake, was a magnitude 9.03 (Mw) undersea megathrust earthquake off the coast of Japan that occurred at 14:46 JST (05:46 UTC) on 11 March 2011, with the epicentre approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tōhoku and the hypocenter at an underwater depth of approximately 32 km (20 mi). It was the most powerful known earthquake ever to have hit Japan, and the fifth most powerful earthquake in the world since modern record-keeping began in 1900. The earthquake triggered powerful tsunami waves that reached heights of up to 40.5 metres (133 ft) in Miyako in Tōhoku’s Iwate Prefecture, and which, in the Sendai area, travelled up to 10 km (6 mi) inland. The earthquake moved Honshu (the main island of Japan) 2.4 m (8 ft) east and shifted the Earth on its axis by estimates of between 10 cm (4 in) and 25 cm (10 in).
On 12 September 2012, a Japanese National Police Agency report confirmed 15,881 deaths, 6,142 injured, and 2,668 people missing across twenty prefectures, as well as 129,225 buildings totally collapsed, with a further 254,204 buildings ‘half collapsed’, and another 691,766 buildings partially damaged.[25
