via SacBee:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. —     Police are investigating after an improvised explosive device was thrown through the window of a South Lake Tahoe marijuana dispensary [Patient to Patient Collective] on the eve of a marijuana holiday.

“Erika Triglia, manager at the dispensary, said the device was a PVC pipe containing sulfur and a fuse. The suspect targeted the room where the collective typically keeps maturing marijuana plants, Triglia said. The incident was an attempt to kill the plants by clouding the room with excessive amounts of sulfur, Triglia said.”
“According to Friday’s statement, the Douglas County Bomb Squad removed the device from the building, rendered it safe and booked it into evidence for processing.
Triglia said the device was removed by her husband, Matt Triglia, who operates the collective. She questioned the need for the bomb squad’s robot, as well as police overtime in the response to the incident.”

On Dec 13th, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors will meet and decide on your right to grow.  The
Hum Co MMJ Ordinance right now will limit you to 5 x 10 sq ft with 1200 watts total per residence!!
It will possibly include a ‘Special Permit’ process that allows expansion to 10 x 10.  We don’t know yet
what the permitting process will involve.  Please let the B of S know that 5 x 10 will not work for you,
and why.  How are your Dispensaries supposed to provide for your needs if no one can grow enough to
meet their own needs or to share?
Most of the Board of Supervisors know nothing about growing or what your medical needs are.
Please let them know.
They also don’t know how many 215 patients are in Humboldt County.
 PLEASE LET THEY KNOW!!

SACRAMENTO; Calif. — The director of a Sacramento medical marijuana dispensary is being charged with several felonies for allegedly selling pot illegally out of the business.

Sacramento County narcotics officers arrested John Swanston, who runs the Horizon Collective on Power Inn Road.

Swanston’s attorney Michael Wise denied the allegations against his client.

“We are adamant that he is in compliance with every state law, every local regulation,” Wise said.

Calif. city seeks marijuana shop

LAGUNA WOODS, Calif. -

It’s just past noon in Laguna Woods, and retired Navy pilot David Masters, 71, has just wrapped up 18 holes on the golf course. The scene beyond him is something out of a postcard….{snip}….
.

Here, the average age is 78, residents drive golf carts to the grocery store and the lawn bowling greens, and bridge games and social clubs are the stuff of daily life.

So are illness and pain. Conversation frequently touches on a litany of ailments everyone seems to share – diabetes, arthritis, glaucoma, cancer – though dwelling on such matters is something of a taboo. More than anything, people here say they are trying to cope with the realities of aging and illness while remaining engaged in this new phase of life, one in which they refuse to accept that retirement means being closed up and isolated.

This is why, city officials say, they voted late last year to approve an ordinance permitting medical marijuana to be sold in town, the only city in Orange County to endorse cannabis dispensaries.

Medical marijuana dispensary appeals business license revocation

Written by Elizabeth Larson
Thursday, 11 December 2008

CLEARLAKE – The operator of a local medical marijuana dispensary plans to appeal the revocation of her business license to the Clearlake City Council at its Thursday night meeting.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. at Clearlake City Hall, 14050 Olympic Drive.

Liz Byrd, owner of Lakeside Herbal Solutions on Mullen Avenue says she’ll be at Thursday night’s meeting to ask that the council overturn the decision by city staff to pull her business license because she is selling medical marijuana.

Byrd, whose dispensary opened in late October, became involved with medical marijuana after she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia seven years ago. She says the medicinal use of marijuana has allowed her to stop using all of her other drugs.

A businesswoman who formerly owned the consignment shop From You to Me, Byrd said she wanted to create a comfortable, professional setting for medical marijuana patients to get their medicine, so she set about opening Lakeside Herbal Solutions, which resembles a doctor’s office.

Even before she opened her doors she had patients ready to seek her services, including one who drives to Clearlake twice a month from Sacramento. Byrd said 35 percent of her clients are terminally ill cancer patients.

But since she opened city officials have alleged that Byrd got her license surreptitiously, without listing on her business license application her intention to sell medical marijuana.

Earlier this year, a temporary citywide moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries within the city limits expired, said Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain.

The moratorium was passed the previous year, said McClain, in the hope that a federal court would come to a consensus as to who ultimately has jurisdiction – federal, state or local agencies – on medical marijuana, which has become a thorny issue for law enforcement due to the conflict between state and federal law.

The council decided that existing medical dispensaries – such as D&M Compassion Center – would be allowed to continue operating, but new dispensaries wouldn’t be permitted, McClain said.
