Doctors to test High CBD Marijuana Strains

Surprisingly, six strains with buds ranging from 5% to 7% CBD by weight have been detected in the year since Steep Hill analytic lab began testing samples from dispensaries and individual growers.* Only two of these high-CBD strains have been made available to patients -and only intermittently, as the pounds delivered by the growers sell out in a day or two. “Soma A-plus” has been dispensed at Harborside Health Center in Oakland, and “Pineapple Thai” at Herbal Solutions in Long Beach. The other four strains are being grown out as clones and should be available by spring 2010 to collectives wishing to dispense them.

  1. Herbal Solutions has not stocked Pineapple Thai for months, it is unavailable in SoCal. One of their stores told me it was 5% CBD and 11% THC, much better than average but not what was expected. Sometimes they sell cuttings ( clones ).

Harborside does not reveal the THC/CBD% of their products online. They merely say they have a CBD rich strain. They will not reveal details by phone or email.

It is now August 2010 and none of the other 4 supposed CBD rich strains have been made available or even discussed in public to my knowledge.

IMHO CBD rich cannabis remains the Holy Grail.

  2. update. Herbal Solutions rarely stocks Pineaple Thai, they had it a few days last week but I missed it. Some of their stores have closed to political pressure and the remaining 3 are independant. And one store in particular doesn’t think updating the menu is a priority.

I drove from San Diego to Harborside in Oakland after being assured they had many CBD rich varieties in stock. many means 2 in Oakland. One was Pineapple Thai and the other a Romulan cross 6% CBD, 5%THC, not exactly what I wanted. I got some of that since we have nothing at home. The plants were encouraging. For $12 each I bought 4 midsized plants, rated about 9.5% CBD, 2/1 cbd-thc ratio. I forget the name at the moment, nothing I had heard of.

Now here’s the kicker. The Harborside site has mentioned their San Jose office for over a month. I called the number listed for it, talked to some one and he said he had a good supply. I asked at Oakland, the person described the SJ facility, had plenty of room to grow, would be bigger than Oakland in the future. OK, It was late & I didn’t feel like driving up to SJ & then all the way to San Diego. SoI stayed at Motel 6 & got to SJ at 10, an hour early. Guess what ? It had been closed by the police !

The website didn’t say it was closed, it still says it is open. The clerk at
Oakland didn’t say it was closed. When I tried the phone number Sunday I got a message saying we are open 11-8 every day.

And on top of all that they still have a crummy menu, although it does list % now.

I must add the staff at harborside are all very nice friendly people
    and knowledgable about cannabis.

  3. Does anyone have a more complete list of strains that are high in CBD, and low in THC that are currentlt available, and where they may be obtained?
