Memo to the Eureka City Council: It’s Time to Tax High Fructose Corn Syrup
Memo to the Eureka City Council: It’s Time to Tax High Fructose Corn Syrup
HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) and other artificial chemical sweeteners are far more detrimental to the health of the population as a whole than tobacco.
If we apply the same sin tax philosophy to sweeteners as we do to tobacco, then we should start taxing sweeteners to discourage their consumption. If 30,000 people a day in Eureka consume 1 can of soda per day, and we tax a can of soda 10 cents a can, that is $3,000 per day tax revenue. X 365 days looks like a cool million $ to me;..and fewer obese kids.
have a peaceful day,
Bill
