About Open Humboldt Government

Open Humboldt Government is an additional, new channel for participation in community discussion around local issues, accessible from the convenience of your home on your own schedule.

Here you will find elected officials introducing important issues for community discussion. You are invited to read your elected representatives’ issue statements as well as comments from your neighbors, and to post your own thoughts in our online forums.

We are not a referendum or a scientific poll. As with any public comment process, participation in Open Humboldt Government is voluntary – and the statements on the website are not necessarily representative of the larger community.

Elected officials understand this. They introduce issues looking for dialog and ideas, not the results of a referendum or poll.

There is no charge to the general public. Elected officials pay $10 per month to cover our operational costs.

Open Humboldt Government is one of several Democracy Projects run by Peak Democracy, a non-partisan company whose mission is to broaden participation in democracy, and to build public trust in government. Read more about how we moderate forums to help ensure they remain free from offensive commentary and personal attacks.
